I entered freight forwarding in 2001 through my family's forwarding business. One of my first responsibilities was developing overseas agents around the world.
That exposed me early to something I would spend the next two decades thinking about: why do some independent forwarders consistently develop business while others spend most of their time waiting for it?
Since then, I've worked with thousands of independent freight forwarders through global forwarding communities. I've watched companies grow. I've watched partnerships develop into major trade lanes. I've watched small independent companies compete successfully against multinationals. And I've watched forwarders with enormous networks of contacts struggle to turn those relationships into meaningful cargo.
The forwarders who grow aren't necessarily the biggest. They're often the most deliberate.
The Proactive Forwarder is my attempt to document and teach what those companies do differently.
